Kunstbibliothek, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin
With its 15 collections, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (SMB) form a universal museum for the preservation, research and communication of art and cultural treasures, encompassing all areas of European and non-European art, archaeology and ethnology of almost all nations, cultures and periods. The collections include the art library, which is one of the world's largest museum libraries. Its literature holdings cover the entire spectrum of art and cultural studies research on all epochs in the history of civilisation, including ethnology, archaeology and empirical cultural studies. In the Book Art Collection, the Ornamental Engraving Collection and the Lipperheide Costume Library, the Art Library possesses significant historical book holdings of outstanding quality and completeness, which are closely interlinked thematically and spatially with the holdings of the museum collections of architecture, book and media art, photography, graphic design and fashion design.
As an institution that sees itself as a research organisation in addition to the classic museum tasks of preserving, collecting and exhibiting, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin and the Kunstbibliothek are involved in numerous national and international research projects.|| Source: www.ifskb.de; www.smb.museum
