The satire periodica Le Sifflet was published under the direction of Arthur Lévy in Paris. From 21st January 1872 until 12th August 1877 it was published weekly, in folio: the last issue was published after a yearlong break on 15th September 1878. The majority of political caricatures on the front page target royalists and Bonapartists. Apart from the chief caricaturist Henri Meyer others such as H. Demare, Moloch, Henri Kat., Eugen Ladreyt, E. Cottin and A. Lemot contributed illustrations.
