Die Schriftgießereien haben ihrer Ausstellung einen guten aufklärenden Charakter gegeben, indem sie in besonderen Kästen die verschie denen Schriftarten wie Gotisch, Sehwabacher, Fraktur, Mediäval, Antiqua, Kursiv und Gro tesk vorführen. Weiter werden die Entstehung der Schrifttype gezeigt und dann in einer besonderen Gruppe die verschiedenen Anwen dungsarten der Drucktype in der Zeitung, im Buch und in Reklamedrucksachen. Im ganzen muß festgestellt werden, daß diese Ausstellung auf jeden Besucher einen unge heuer starken Eindruck machen wird. Aller dings ist dies kein geschlossener Eindruck der Presse, sondern vielmehr der Eindruck einer großen Arbeitsleistung auf den verschiedensten Gebieten, die irgendwie mit der Druckkunst und Drucktechnik Zusammenhängen. Ob nun derartige Ausstellungen und Anstrengungen bei ihrer heutigen Wiederholung in den ein zelnen Großstädten Deutschlands und bei den enormen Kosten, die sie nicht nur den Stadt verwaltungen, sondern auch der ausstellenden Industrie verursachen, heute noch wirklich trag in a separate group the various usage to which printer’s types can be put in the newspaper, the book and in advertising matter. On the whole, it must be said that this exlii- bition is bound to make a very strong impres- sion upon every visitor. It is not, to be sure, a rounded impression of the press as a whole, on the contrary it is the impression of a great deal of work which has been accomplished in the most various fields, all more or less connected with the printer’s art and the technique of prin- ting. Whether such exhibitions and exertions, so frequently repeated in the various great cities of Germany, are really worth while and can cover the enormous costs which they entail, not only to the city authorities in question but also to all the firms exhibiting, is another question. Since the question of international exhibitions is to be the subject of international negotiations in the immediate future, there is no doubt that an attempt will be made to come to an under- standing in this direction, for in the next few years great international exhibitions have been announced by a whole series of other states, in order to induce leaders of industry to send their wares in for exhibition.
