The journal „kritische berichte“ is the press organ of the Ulmer Vereins (Verband für Kunst- und Kulturwissenschaften e.V.) and is published quarterly. It was founded in 1973 during a methodological crisis in the field of history of art, and during the rise of the new art history movement. The "Kunstchronik. Monatsschrift für Kunstwissenschaft, Museumswesen und Denkmalpfleg" has been published since 1948 by the Zentralinstitut für Kunstgeschichte in cooperation with the Nuremberg publisher Hans Carl. The journal is also the news organ of the Association of German Art Historians (Verband deutscher Kunsthistoriker e.V.). 11 issues are published annually (September/October as a double issue). With the exception of the last three years, the magazine is also available free of charge in Open Access.
