Open Educational Resources / Free Educational Materials

Open education, digital teaching, networked knowledge

Open Educational Resources (OER) are freely accessible teaching and learning materials that are published under open licences. They can be used, shared and adapted to individual teaching and learning contexts free of charge.

In the field of art history, OER offer the opportunity to make image materials, texts and research results openly available, thereby expanding access to art historical knowledge. Their use enables students and teachers to collaborate regardless of location and time, explore content interactively and develop their own contributions.

OER and free educational materials support modern, collaborative and inclusive university teaching. They promote academic exchange, digital literacy and the sustainable transfer of knowledge in the field of art history.

You can find an overview of selected OER and Free Educational Materials from the fields of art, photography and design curated by us here.

Open Educational Resources (OER) are educational materials of any kind and in any medium that are published under an open license. Such an open license allows free access, use, editing, and redistribution by others with few or no restrictions. Open Educational Resources can include individual materials as well as complete courses or books. Any medium can be used. Curricula, course materials, textbooks, streaming videos, multimedia applications, podcasts—all of these resources are OER if they are published under an open license. (Source: UNESCO Definition)
