Specialised Information Service

arthistoricum.net is the central information and service infrastructure for European art and art history, as well as photography and design. Its extensive service portfolio is closely aligned with the needs of the art history community. Its main focus is on providing comprehensive information and literature, as well as developing and operating core services to support researchers, including in the areas of digital research and publication practices, and comprehensive literature, image, and exhibition research. The portal also serves as a presentation and communication space for interdisciplinary research and interest groups, institutional partners, and cooperation and satellite projects.

As part of the DFG funding program “Discipline-Specific Information Services" (in German “Fachinformationsdienste”, FID) the portal is jointly operated by Heidelberg University Library and SLUB Dresden, with the purchase and licensing of printed and electronic specialist literature coordinated within the framework of an agreed acquisition profile. The design and further development of arthistoricum.net is closely monitored by a scientific advisory board.

The Specialised Information Service Art, Photography, Design pursues five strategic goals:

  1. Building up holdings and providing subject-relevant media on a supraregional basis,
  2. operating the specialist portal arthistoricum.net with subject-specific research services as a powerful information infrastructure for the provision of services,
  3. operating innovative publication services for open access publications,
  4. operation of bibliographic services, subject-related standard data work and content indexing, and
  5. activities for networking, scientific communication, and knowledge transfer, as well as contributions to the overall FID system.
