Graphikportal

The Graphikportal is an international union catalogue of works on paper. The research data are published by collections from museums, libraries, archives and institutes for art history. It aims at presenting best quality digital images as well as information from reliable sources. It has been developed by the Deutsches Dokumentationszentrum für Kunstgeschichte – Bildarchiv Foto Marburg on behalf of the international network Graphik vernetzt.

In contrast to the online catalogue of an individual collection, the Graphikportal is understood as a “collection of collections”. It shall be useful for scientific researchers as well as for the general public interested in art. Intelligent organisation of information and useful links between related artworks from most famous collections allow for systematic research. This scientific infrastructure will be continuously refined. Digital access to works of art is not meant as a substitute for visiting departments for prints and drawings. Nothing can replace a look at the original drawings or prints. But, the Graphikportal is a useful tool for preparing such a visit, as we can only ask for objects, when we know of their existence.

After three years of intense work the Graphikportal was finally published online on the 11th of November 2017 at the address: https://www.graphikportal.org. Access is free.
